Dorothy has been a Waterford Hills fan since she was a little Girl. Her father brought her out here every race weekend when he started racing at Waterford in the early 80's. Dorothy grew up playing with cars not dolls, and has been a car freak ever since.

Dorothy started racing in 2002 after completing Waterford hills driving school that year. Dorothy continues to bring her lap times down and has a great consistent line around the Waterford Hills race track.

2000 SCCA Central Division A Sedan Champion

Tom has always been a certifiable car nut and die hard Corvette fan. He started Auto Crossing in 1997 in a C-4 Corvette, which later evolved into track events and drivers schools. Tom began his road racing career in 1994 in SCCA’s New England Division driving an ITS Mazda RX-7. This early racing experience included tracks like Pocono, Lime Rock, and New Hampshire International. Unfortunately, Tom’s ITS car was totaled in a 100 MPH crash at Lime Rock by his driving instructor. (It was never determined exactly what the “instructor” was trying to illustrate for Tom with that particular maneuver.) The A Sedan car project was started in 1996, just prior to Tom relocating to Michigan. While the AS Camaro was being completed, he kept his skills sharp driving an ITA Mazda RX-7 at Waterford Hills in 1996 and 1997. The Camaro was finished in time to make the 1998 season, although 1998 and 1999 proved troublesome for Tom with a number of mechanical gremlins showing up, which is very typical with a “new” race car. The difficulties culminated on the second test day of the 2000 season in a catastrophic engine failure at Waterford Hills. With the help of John Blanchard (Engines by JB) the white #88 Camaro was readied in time for the 2000 season, which it pretty much dominated in both SCCA CENDIV and WHRRI races. Plans for 2001 include an all-new car to be campaigned at WHRRI and in SCCA Regional and National events.

After running the rotary powered Mazda RX7 ITR car for four years, the Beretta became available last fall and I jumped on it. I concentrated on getting it mechanically sound over the winter and have been enjoying learning how to drive the car this season. With almost 5 times the power under my right foot as I had in the Mazda plus going to true racing slicks and a purpose built chassis, it has been a real experience getting used to the immediacy that the car responds to input with- I love driving this car!

My best friend, Jon Tomkins, agreed to be my Crew Chief and has done an excellent job keeping the car happy and helping to deal with engine tuning, gearing and driveline issues. He is always there for me, slugging it out in the heat so I can concentrate on driving. I could not run this car without Jon’s help. Watch for Jon in the car at the Fun Run this fall. Jon, you’ve earned it!

In June 2002, Great Lakes Power Sports signed on as our sponsor and we are looking forward to bringing PWC, Snowmobile, and Motorcycle customers to them for years to come. My goal is for this to be as good a deal for them as it has been for the team. With the Beretta’s very healthy appetite for Hoosier slicks and racing fuel, their assistance has been absolutely key to keeping the Beretta on the race track, plus they really are a bunch of gearheads and love racing. It’s great to have them come out to watch the races and hang out in my paddock.

We have earned a GT1 victory twice this year at Waterford Hills and look forward to winning many more. We definitely have our work cut out for us!
