Time Trial Registration for Race Weekend 4

Postby Clutch » Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:04 am

It's finally here!

Waterford Hills is pleased to open up registration for it's inaugural Time Trial competition. Registration is open to Open Track Day (HPDE-4) participants/vehicles that have run in the advance group (Blue) as well as competition licensed drivers. Drivers not meeting those requirements that wish to participate can do so by completing a "Skill Verification" run with an assigned qualified driver.

How it works:

  • We will attach a transponder to your vehicle during the Tech Inspection
  • You'll complete a quick indoctrination course to explain how the event works (driver's meeting)
  • Participate in a timed practice session on Saturday Morning.
  • Choose your target lap time based on the timed practice session runs
  • We'll place you out on the track so you shouldn't encounter the other drivers based on your chosen time.
  • Drive your three sessions and try to get as close to your chosen time as you can.
  • Your best time from each session will be used to score your runs. The lower the differential, the better your score.

Basic rules:

  • Point to pass rules... no driver may pass unless they are pointed by the leading driver.
  • HPDE-4 (Blue group) passing zones
  • MANDATORY blue flags - you have to let a car pass if you are shown a blue flag
  • NO wheel to wheel racing.
  • If you've run an Open Track Day at Waterford Hills, you already know 90% of the procedure!
  • Registration is limited to 20 cars. There will be up to 2 run groups divided by chosen lap times.

Track time:

  • Saturday
    • Morning - 20 minute session: Qualification/Practice runs
    • Afternoon - 15-20 minute session: Timed Runs*
  • Sunday
    • Morning - 15-20 minute session: Timed Runs*
    • Afternoon - 15-20 minute session: Timed Runs*
*Session times may vary based on track schedule/maintenance issues

Fabulous to see this getting some legs.

A couple initial questions - if I look at the registration list hyperlink from the above it brings up the 6/23 OTD.

Also - given that the weekend sessions are cumulative, can someone participate if they can only do one day (knowing that they will not have a chance at winning)? And even if this is the case, my presumption is with only 20 spots they should hold off on entering?

I'm seeing the correct link to the registration site (http://msreg.us/WHRWR4TT). Not sure what would cause you to go to the June23rd registration with that link.

The way it is set up, you would have to participate on Saturday only... mandatory driver's meeting and grid are determined in the morning session on Saturday and missing that would throw off the group.

If you wanted to participate for only one day(Saturday), I don't see a problem with it.

Thanks,

Ed.

Ed - thanks for the quick reply.

And I typed too quickly. The main event page was fine - when I clicked on "view current registration list" it brought up the OTD. That appears to be rectified now...

Is there any process for picking a number for the car?

To keep things simple this first time we are going to assign a number... That number will be applied to the windshield and both rear passenger windows using a window marker. My reasons for that is there will be numbered race cars that may participate, and would mean duplicate numbers.

thanks!

I see the 'morning/afternoon' schedule - Is there a schedule or order to the race weekend? ie. Class A, Class B, etc - knowing that the 'time' of the start is subject to change based on maintenance/etc..?

Also - is there a minimum required signup for this event? I only see 3 of us.. :/
