torque steering after accident

Postby msmiata » Fri Apr 19, 2013 6:56 pm

2 days till our for otd...yahoo...means our favorite season is almost here.

My Miata was in an accident, I was hit 3 times. First time drivers left rear, put the wheel right up against the trunk. Sent me spinning next time he hit was drivers door, last time was drivers front.

Now I have steering torque. Mechanic hasn't a clue why.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Please?

Thanks
See you all soon

What do you mean by steering torque? do you mean torque steer on acceleration, or do you have a pull one direction all the time?

When I accelerate it pulls to the left when I let off to change gears or to stops my son said it comes back to true. When I looked at the car last week the tires were straight but the steering wheel was off to the right if I remember correctly. I pointed it out to the garage guy and he said it was just play in the steering wheel. I went by and got the car again today. Drivers right sway bar has been replaced but I was hit on drivers left. First impact was drivers left rear light, then drivers left door then drivers front quarter panel.
To appease the garage I put the summer tires on since that is what they said the problem was. They called and said problem all fixed. HAHAHA
I took it for a drive and at first it did right but we got out and checked the pressure in the tires, both front tires and driver left rear tire were at 25psi drivers right rear was at 20. We equaled pressure in all 4 tires and the problem came back.
Pull to left on acceleration and back to true on deceleration.
Thanks for your imput

Hmmm, toe change on accel/decel, could be?

I've had this on my minivan as the tie rod ends wear out... very amusing, 'cept when towing, which is of course when it's more obvious... mind you, the van is AWD, so of course that's involving the reaction forces due to drive torque on the driven axle...

So I'd have 'em check for slop in the toe linkages, front and rear; could well be a left rear toe link out...

HTH...
