My names Patrick and I am just about finished building my first car. It's a 1987 BMW 325is and is prepared for ITS. I've been to the track a few times for Open Track Days but other then that I do not have much on-track experience. I plan on doing the drivers school in April and just had a few questions before I get surprised at tech inspection. I believe so far my interpretation of the GCR has been correct(even with all the lawyer talk) but with this being my first build, im still a little nervous.
1: Is it required to have a Right Side Drivers Net?
2: The '87 BMW E30's came with massive, ugly metal bumpers. The '88+ models came with more attractive plastic bumpers. So can I update the bumpers of my '87 325is to '88 325is bumpers?
3: I read the rules and they state the Heater Core must remain in the vehicle. Well, I may have gotten a little aggressive and ripped the entire HVAC box out of the car and threw it in the trash
. However, I do still have the Heater Core. The rules say nothing about keeping it in the factory location. Does this mean I can just throw it in my trunk and run a bolt through it?
4: If the Roll Cage SFI foam comes in contact with the door frame or the stamped sheet metal that holds the Window Regulator and motor. Can that framing be cut out and power window components removed?
5: I want to make sure my Roll Cage was build correctly before the Driver School. As obviously any changes in its design will be quite involved and take some time to accomplish. Can you, or do you know anybody that could take a look at my car prior to Tech? I would really appreciate it if somebody with more knowledge then me could come check it out. I'm located in Romeo, MI.
I attached a few images of my car and cage so you can check it out!
