Here we go again.
I am not a fan of this, but form your own opinion.
Basic overview is they combined Gt-4 and Gt-5 some years back, and now wish to dissolve the class of the combined classes: GTL.
( imagine if you had money in a GTL engine program, now all for naught )
Throwing GTL into F-Prod , H-Prod, and GT-3, and SLOWING DOWN GT-3 is also not real fair to those already in those classes.
Sports Racers are already going through this, as S-2000,Spec Racer, C-SR and D-SR are being re-classed and re-named.

I remember when they killed G-Prod , in favor of classes that are no longer active. ( G-prod had good numbers at the time )

I personally miss GT-4 and GT-5 , and yes G-Prod too.

If i squint when i read the fine print , with Nationals and Majors being the new program, What happens to Regionals in the future ?
IF no Regionals? What happens to Improved Touring ? If there is an announced plan, i missed it.

Got an opinion ? Write a letter to the S.C.C.A. comp board. Bear in mind, IF you are not a member of S.C.C.A. they will pay no attention.
If you are not a member of S.C.C.A. , i would suggest finding somebody who is ( not difficult ) and urge them to write on your behalf.

I remind you, do not take my opinion for it, i was just stating mine.

More like Nationals are going away, not so much Regionals...

Otherwise yes, pay attention, as noticeable changes are afoot...

So what if you have a spitfire set up as a GTL what would the weight penalty be ?? and would a weber setup still be aloud duel 40 mm

Maybe it's time we seriously looked over our need to be in lockstep with the SCCA. Their constant rules changes do nothing for those of us who just want to race for the fun of it, and have no desire to run nationals or go pro.

Absolutely agree with Jeff's post above!

My goal, though not 100% firm, is to be back out with the WHRRI family next season. It is 100% for the following year as I'll retire from Ford in early 2015 and be free from the ungodly number of hours I work and the midnight shift! I fully expect I'll have a substantial amount time to contribute back to the club too!

I do not want to have to do a bunch of potentially expensive modifications based on chasing the SCCA rules to the two cars (two MG Midgets for those that don't kow me -- one in FP and the other in HP) that I have and enjoy. SCCA rules are why I chose WHRRI instead of the SCCA in the first place. I find WHRRI's ability to make exceptions highly desireable. Roll cage fiascos in the Production category come immediately to mind along with a couple of others! Yes, I came very close to buying a pair of ISAAC H&N restraints (and I still prefer that design)...

Anyway, this is my first post here in a long long time (been here lurking daily though) and as I said above, I really agree with Jeff!

if we were to ditch GCR classing, it seems like we'd need to maintain some sort of (annually updated) mapping from GCR class --> WHRRI class. without that being available in print, I'm wondering whether prospective visitors would doubt being allowed to run in a WHRRI class.(?) or maybe X-classes would be the blanket answer to that.(?)

Rather than doing that, we could allow current prod cars in current SCCA classes while also allowing cars that meet some frozen in time set of Prod rules. That'd satisfy me as long as I'm not chasing the rapidly moving target the SCCA seems to cherish -- even though they deny it. Actions speak...

Cat Kizer's '62 Sprite was a national championship car in HP in '79 or '80 and is essentially frozen at that level of prep. The FP car belonged to Bill Neimeyer when he took the FP championship in 2000 and that car is still at that prep level (suspension and chassis). Drive train is not as "hot" as the drive train that was in it when Bill won but my goals are to enjoy the cars, enjoy the people, and have some fun on the track. I can't approach the FP lap record but then again I don't have to to enjoy myself.

Just random thoughts for now... ...hitting the road to my other love -- the cabin in the UP -- for the weekend!
