Run Groups

Post by kenmascia »

Just wondering how run groups are determined? In 2012 Formula 500 and 600 were run group 2. Last year we were group 6. I assumed run groups were adjusted yearly but now I see we are in group 6 again this year. Sorry to be a whiner but group 6 starts late and keeps you at the track late. It's hard for me to balance that with family stuff. I was really hoping to move to an earlier group this year. What's the deal?

Was also wondering if ITC was going to stay in run group 3 again this season or if we could get bumped back into our usual spot in 5 since last year we were a class of 1 most the season and there's more cars we have some chance of running with in 5 than 3. We actually ran in run group 5 for the last race of the year last year with permission from the tower.

Matt,

I also find it odd that they would stick ITC and HP in group 3, I know in the past all of the Prod cars ran together. Is it a matter of car counts?

Ted,
You hit it on the head. Only speaking for last season, ITC was moved to try and balance car count. The current crop of IT-C drivers seems to play very well with others. They should not view that as being punished for playing nice.

As for Run groups, and Run group order,,Impossible to please everybody.
It does seem most fair to rotate, but it seems there is less total outcry when there is no rotation.
Again, not to punish, but running small bore open wheel at the end of the day makes sense , as the closer the club runs to the end of the day ( attempting to use as much of the race clock as can be done )
the likely hood that cars may need to be loaded by hand- not running. The current status of the run group ( lower car count , very light cars ) does help the track, and all others.

It can be very tough to make " perfect" run groups. A lot of classes, a fixed count on run groups, and an 8 hour window to get it all done.

If you have concerns, or better yet solutions, be sure to forward them to the comp board.
I am sure the current board is no less able than other boards in the past to adjust, if a proven need is there.
Remember, car counts per class change year to year.
You start with a plan, but attendance after you made that plan sometimes creates a need for change.
Drop a friendly note,( not to me ) you have nothing to lose.
I have full faith that Jerry, Bruce, and the rest of the board will keep eyes on things.

Noted and thank-you, we shall talk at drivers school since we are returning to sort out the car a bit this year :)
