Re: 2015 schedule
It's not showing up for me. I would like to see if I can schedule a race or two to come up and try the place.

Re: 2015 schedule
Randy,
Thanks for asking !
The reasons for going from 6 club weekends down to 5 were many.
Bear in mind this was not an easy, or snap decision folks. It has been discussed by the B.O.D. for a few years.
1. While race weekends still do pay their own way, there are some weekends that just break even. The fixed expenses to function on a race weekend are higher than most realize.
The club can never afford to lose money, ever.
2. Everywhere, Open track days and the like, are a major focus for income , and potential new racers. We have done very well in this arena, and need to keep striking while the iron is hot.
3. Track rental is another source of great net income for the club. The club rental dates were sold out in 2014.
Note the fixed expenses are lower for OTD and Rentals, and our overall net is higher ,
4. Infrastructure . Many of the same folks who volunteer on club weekends, can also be found at O.T.D. , Vintage, Autorama , etc. The burnout factor becomes very obvious around August.
5. Taking away one weekend, may make the other 5 better. There are many events on the summer race calender besides ours. Sometimes less is more.
6. We need to save and create as much money as we can if we ever wish to repave. We were formed as a RACE club, and will always be a race club, and need to take steps to ensure that we can always afford to operate as one. That is not a sky is falling oh my god we are broke statement, just the opposite.
Bear in my i love traditions, and going from 6 to 5 is stepping away from tradition. This a big picture move. Sometimes new traditions are needed.
Hope that clears things up for all.
Any questions, feel free to ask, nicely.
Cheers!
Joel

Re: 2015 schedule
Yay!! Thanks again guys for getting this out nice and early.
I too was a little surprised by only 5 races this year.
Then I thought about how empty the paddock's been for even our 6 races; yeah, maybe a little less is more. It's certainly worth a try, considering the financial balance vs. OTDs (and all the crowd the OTDs bring in, while the racer side of the room seems to be thinning)...

Re: 2015 schedule
Thanks Joel! If you check on the Mahoning Valley SCCA site, they have a preliminary schedule for both Great Lakes and Northeast. Gingerman May 16 &17, Grattan June 27 & 28 and Mid Ohio Aug 8 & 9, Aug 29 & 30 and October 10 & 11.
Nelson Ledges is listed May 2 & 3 but we aren't sure of dates there yet. There may be that, there may be more.

Joel, Thanks for the update. I sure would be great for the club if we can get the track repaved!

I will have to go back to BMW CCA , 5 races not enough to keep up , maintain or improve skills

Re: 2015 schedule
Christian ,
Sure it is.
Look at this way, how many folks make EVERY race weekend year in year out ?
Five gives a better shot to those who plan accordingly.
Surely you read the list of reasons.

Re: 2015 schedule
When I last drove, I would do most if not all of the Waterford races, which gave me the room in my schedule to add Grattan, Mid-Ohio (Gingerman wasn't around), IRP (not raced now), Nelson Ledges (ugh, what a pit), Elkhart Lake and/or more. If they (WHRRI) had larger fields at all of the 6 weekends, this wouldn't have come up !
So, now you can do WHRRI and BMW (or what ever group you want) both during a season and get more then enough track time, to sustain you through our, "so very long", winters !

Re: 2015 schedule
This works for us as well as many of the others who had to chose between WHRRI and the IT Spectacular at Mid-Ohio in August. Remember how thin the fields were in SM and Group 5 last year that weekend?

Re: 2015 schedule
Is there going to be a discount for pre-pay of all 5 races?

I don't know the answer to that question, but I take it as a good sign you ask. So planning a full season again?Corvairmechanic wrote:Is there going to be a discount for pre-pay of all 5 races?

Re: 2015 schedule
Are we close to seeing a full entry form for the 2015 season package?
I hope the full season package is 5/6th the cost of the 6 race full season package from 2014.

Re: 2015 schedule
If things work out I may even try running 2 classes along with the full schedule!
