Sound Requirements for OTD -Formula Car

Postby Mark_Silverberg » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:54 pm

Still trying to determine the sound requirements for OTD. I have a vintage FV which is not particularly loud -but nominally does not run a muffler. I can not find a sound control requirement on the OTD form - but this may be because it is primarily street cars.

Can anyone help me understand if my car could run at OTD on 4/17?

you must run a commerecially available muffler and be under 75db.

My car had a SuperTrapp when I bought it (Vee). I actually believe it to be one of the kart mufflers, but can't confirm that. It only has four baffle plates. Without the muffler, as I run at Mid Oh, it would very likely be over the Waterford limit.

my car has an under tail exhaust with a 4to 1 collector dumping immediately into a flat megaphone. There is no such thing as a commecially available muffler for such things. Anyone have any bright ideas?

Is the megaphone welded to the outlet of the collector?

yes, the megaphone is welded directly on the outlet of the collector.. It would not be diffcult to make an insert - but it would not be a "commercially available muffler"

Not sure if it would satisfy the organizers, but you could modify a commercially available muffler. Take some plates from a SuperTrapp and make an insert. I haven't looked at the rulebook in awhile pertaining mufflers, but I don't remember any rule about modifying commercially available mufflers.

good news - I did find the collector has round section that extends into the megaphone

Bad news is I am behind on my car prep and will probably not make OTD.
