Helmets can be bought online through the manufacturers or Averill Racing (www.racing-stuff.com
) located in Madison Heights, MI...They take very good care of racers and newbies there. You can try on helmets to get the one that fits you correctly.
Waterford Hills does not sell or rent out helmets.
Your car isn't a convertible, and as long as it doesn't leak fluids or smokes, you are good to go.
Insurance...not sure what you are asking? The track is insured. Your car will NOT be insured by your insurance company once it is on the track (More than likely).
Tech starts at 8am, driver's meeting is at 9:30am, and driver instruction session will start at 10am. There will be several run groups broken up based on driver's experience levels. They will rotate through out the day.
The time on track you get from your $150 entrance fee varies. It depends on how many cars and groups show up. I believe the group sessions are 15 or 20 minutes. You will probably get between 4-6 sessions throughout the day.
No passengers are allowed. We will do an instructional session at the beginning of the day with passengers. "Expert" drivers will show you how to drive the track.
What else do you need to know?...relax, have fun, don't try to hard.
Consessions are available for breakfast, lunch and snacking.
Bring an air pressure gauge, some extra fluids (oil, water, brake fluid), and a nice lawn chair. Make sure you remove all of this stuff from your car BEFORE going onto the track (add spare tire and floor mats to the list). If you drive a manual transmission car....DO NOT use the parking brake after a session, your brakes are hot and the cold parking brake may stay attached.
I hope that covers it. I am sure some others can help fill you in as well.
Enjoy! And again welcome.
